Lived In- But Fresh

I recently had the pleasure of catching up with Salt Lake City's Mixed Martial Arts Fighter,

Nathan Kearsley. We talked about training methods and head spaces when preparing for a confrontation as physical as a mixed martial arts matchup. We compared our favorite places to hike and spot wildflowers. Reminisced about Buenos Aires and sharing maté

Lived In- But Fresh

Short haircuts can sometimes be all about those expertly groomed, strong lines, angles, precise fades and hard parts. While they are damn fine and sexy, but not for everybody. Let's say you've got a little flirtatious wave that catches a lot of attention, don't cut all that off! You have a Tinder date later but your hair is a mess, get that cut that doesn't look like you just left the Barber or Stylist. Make an effort!

What would you call this cut? What do you ask for when visiting your stylist? A Pixie is such a broad term! Barbers? Medium fullness with a 6/8" (#6) guard, save the length on top?! Bring a reference photo! The Buzzwords I would send spiraling past your barber or stylists ear would maybe go like this: Low Maintenance, TomBoy, Easy, Laid Back, Androgynous or even Shaggy.

Technique and Styling

Razor cut a close graduation at the neck line and perimeters using diagonal-back sections to create a soft edge. Start at the front and work your way around the head shape. I used a rounded geometry at the front of the head shape to the back above the occipital. I used a square geometry for below the occipital and the nape area. At the crown or above the parietal ridge, I used scissor work to create soft layers, length is determined by the guides at the front of the haircut and the sides at the parietal ridge. For the layers I used a combination square geometry at the crown to mimic the jawline and rounded geometry at the recessions to frame the face and create softness for the wave pattern framing the face.

I used my straight edge razor and Crown Shaving Cream to clean up the unwanted hair at the nape.

Use a generous amount of Hairstory's Hair Balm on wet or dry hair. Applying Hair Balm on wet hair will dilute the product creating a softer look. An application of Hair Balm on dry hair gives a more controlled or defined look. Honestly, I would apply in the morning for a light 'AM' Daytime style and then apply again for 'PM' hours when your going out. This shit is natural smelling so it won't be gross when you've sweat through during your workout. Wash with Hairstory's New Wash when you stink! NEW WASH is your shampoo and your conditioner for curl/wave maintenance. Don't forget to freshen up those pits throughout the day too, I've included my favorite natural deodorant!
