CAPITAL REEF

National Park

Torrey, Utah and Capital Reef National Park in January. Quiet and peaceful, the air, a cold 15 degrees.

I love the bright white of the snow, brilliant red rock and crisp blue sky.

There are only two restaurants open in Torrey, the town just outside Capital Reef National Park. Even the convenient stores at the gas stations are closed.

Book a cabin near the Torrey Trading Post and old Post Office for $48 a night. They are comfortable and cozy, well insulated and the electric heater works too well, you can keep the heat on the lowest setting even when it's negative degrees outside. After the snowstorm the sky at night was clear. I peeked at the Little Dipper, too cold to find any other familiar constellations, -4 degrees.
