LUNCH BAG ART! Long time print maker and poster artist Leia Bell cannot help create art on any canvas. Leia is a Salt Lake City icon, beginning over ten years ago making gig posters for music venue, Kilby Court, started by her long time partner, Phil Sherburne. Together they have opened and incredble frame and print shop, Signed & Numbered, in Salt Lake City's south side. Leia and Phil are very busy raising three, super-rad and imaginitive boys. All this hectic creativity finds their family exploring the natural landscape of Utah on their days off and unintentional, but brilliant Lunch Bag Art for the kids on school days... and possible grocery runs. New inspiration happens one school day at a time and it is fun to see how each days bag turns out.
"Safety Squirrel"
"The Reluctant Gardener"
Not actually a lunch bag because it's the weekend. Portrait of pets - The Golden Girl California, Queen Latifah & pup, Indigo Montoya.
"Mr. & Mrs. Sparrow" Taking up residence under the eaves of Leia's office, she has enjoyed watching their romance unfold.
"Nothing Matters When We're Dancing"
After a trip to Antelope Island, UT and viewing tons of buffalo! Bob Marley songs now stuck in the head of the artist.
Tarsier vs Bush Baby. Leia drew a tarsier but Oslo says it was a bush baby. Similar? Dedicated to @angie_oh
"Reach for the Stars"
Going back to school after an amazing spring break adventure trip requires some positive messages for the kiddos.
More slothiness in honor of friend and soon to be mama to twins!
Friday afternoon work in progress... Seems the decision is made that this brown bagging is not just for early school day mornings anymore.
Most of these make it back home! Brown Bag show? Next, grocery bags? https://instagram.combuiltfromwood
Hiking along the base of Comb Ridge in Southern Utah, Leia's family saw a cave high up in the rock and wondered what might live up there. Cortez, her son, suggested it was most likely a bear wearing a jet pack... of course.
Though he is not puking the rainbow as discussed, still... a thanks to Mary Toscano for the inspiration.
Oslo instantly recognized his own quote-- He shouted this while standing on a rock looking at the view atop Guardsman Pass, Utah
